Is God's heart moved as we abstain from food? I used to wrestle with this question. Imagine a bonfire. You may notice it from afar, as you get closer and closer you are able to feel the warmth and see the bright flame with more intensity. Did the bonfire get hotter? Did it get brighter? Or was its brightness and heat constant as you repositioned yourself to experience it.
God's heart is constantly burning brightly for you and I. Fasting repositions us and causes us to draw closer and nearer to the blazing heart of God. We experience the warmth of his nearness and the brightness of his revelation. Fasting does not move God's heart closer to us; it moves our Hearts closer to him.
As we bring our hearts before Jesus this week in fasting and prayer, pause and consider what is being moved and why. Ask Jesus to continue to draw your heart close to His through fasting.
